It takes vision to bring about positive change in individuals or communities. In 1971 Dorothy Smith, a resident on Loretto Road, had a vision to have a Pentecostal church in her community. Pastor Hubert Wilder of Riverside Assembly along with some of the young people from that congregation caught the vision by assisting in canvassing the Mandarin area in hope of attracting people to this new vision. Mandarin was a sleepy but developing area ten miles south of downtown Jacksonville underneath huge oak trees on the banks of the St. Johns River. After meeting in the Smith's house and the Old Mandarin Post Office a building was erected on the current property. In the intervening 35 years the Pastors who served this congregation have joined with those of like precious faith in developing a vibrant church fellowship. The church has grown numerically, physically and spiritually. Situated on 12 beautiful acres of land on Loretto Road the campus is housed in three buildings totaling over 20,000 square feet. Spiritually the expectation has grown as we have witnessed the change people's lives as they come to the Lord as Savior. One of the encouraging signs of the maturing process is evidenced in the number of young people who have entered full-time ministry at home and overseas. The vision is still strong to reach and share the life-changing message of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is the unified belief that vision is of God and only the Holy Spirit can bring about eternal results as His gifts work in effective manner through Spirit-filled believers. Our greatest days are just ahead and we invite you to join the adventure to build and reach a community at Freedom Christian Fellowship!
